A day touring 451 year old St. Augustine, FL

Our first stop was the old fort, Castillo de San Marcos. A visit that was highly recommended and well worth the time. It’s a fort that was never taken in multiple battles – only transferred ownership when treaties were signed. Since it’s a National Park, we purchased our lifelong senior membership card for $10. Now we’re set for any more parks along the way.

While we stood on the top level of the fort, where the guns were all positioned, we were blessed with a 2 dolphin show out in Matanzas Bay!

Next we walked to the oldest house in the United States. St Augustine also has the oldest wooden schoolhouse. I was able to buy a slate pencil, which is what I used when in school in Germany. Walking the narrow cobblestone streets brought back memories of when I was growing up in the Old World!

Then we drove over the draw bridge to the still functioning lighthouse. We could have walked up to the top, but just didn’t have what it took to do that!! The heat didn’t help, although that nasty wind that blows us all over the road was a wonderful cooling blessing today!

Tomorrow we plan to leave Florida. We have decided that FL has the most aggressive/rude drivers so far! And there are egrets everywhere. They must be the State bird!

We forgot to mention that Roger’s cousin Al Nye has a website. On it you can find a free 30 day trial subscription for Pure Flix, if you are interested. www.NyeFamily.com
