Heading to OH, we stopped at the John and Annie Glenn Museum. The focus was on the home he grew up in. OH is very proud of their son John Glenn! The museum (once we found it – not well marked in town), was very interesting. We got a tour of his house with a super tour guide – it was her first time and she did great! The tour was set in the 1940's. (One small fact we learned is that Hitler hated red, so women wore bright red lipstick as a statement of hate toward him.)
Just 4 miles down the road is the Zane Grey Museum. An amazing adventurer! He was Heather’s mom’s favorite author as a child, so we checked it out, too.
Arriving in Circleville we were told the grandsons would be
going to Michigan for Saturday. It was one more disappointment in our already
totally changed schedule to camp with them for the weekend. Their dad just doesn’t
want us around!!Their mom neglected to let us know of the change in schedule.
However, Heather decided to pray changes in the boys’ schedule. If they had gone to MI, we wouldn’t have seen them at all. God answered and they didn’t go to MI. But while they were in town the entire day of Saturday, we were not told that until evening. At that point, we met them at the Dollar Store parking lot (their grandma is somewhat sympathetic to us, and at personal risk of losing her privileges with them, met us there).
On Sunday we “showed up” at their church to see them one more time. They go with their grandma – dad doesn’t go. After church they usually go to McDonald’s, so we “showed up” there again! Grandma let them eat with us. But shortly thereafter we got the message that dad had been seen back in town and they needed to leave immediately. We felt good about the contact. As the boys grow, they need to know more of “our” side of their sad life – things they won’t hear from dad’s side of the family. The boys, 10 and 12, are struggling in school, but otherwise seem to be doing o.k. They mowed their grandma’s grass and spoke respectfully to us. BTW, the church they attend doesn’t use the Bible – there was no sermon and the boys said they didn’t have a Bible story in children’s church. A major prayer need!
We were blessed to be able to hook up to electricity at a friend’s farm house (barn). Several years ago we met them at a church, and they have extended the gift of a hook up while in Circleville. Friday night we shared the space with a skunk!! The odor finally dissipated sometime in the night and there were only faint traces in the morning. By Saturday he had moved on, much to our great relief!
Every morning we hear the cardinals calling out “pretty, pretty”
to each other. It’s fun to tease them by answering – they do respond to that
word! We miss them out west.
