Into Downtown Phoenix on Tuesday

We took a short side trip to Cave Creek Frontier town: (Thanks for the tip, Sharon!)

Then on to our friends Lyle and Beate* in Phoenix for a delicious salmon dinner. This was their view out the dinning room window:

On to cousin Sue and Barry's for the night in Chandler. We slept in the house, and the R.V. just fit on the driveway!

*Lyle and Beate were married in Germany, with dad officiating. They recently moved from Seattle.

Arrived in AZ

Miss Winnie and we 2 have arrived in Sun City, AZ. We enjoyed dinner with friends Darrell and Sharon from Moody Bible Institute days, and will be spending the night here. The sky is clear and the weather is exceptional. No complaints!! God is good.

Sunday with friends

We were thrilled to worship with like-minded brothers and sisters here in Sky Valley, CA.

After church, Al & Brenda took us on a tour - first to the Cabot house. A visionary who turned the desert into a spa and museum by creatively collecting and reusing materials he salvaged from old houses and rails.

After lunch at a fish place in Palms Springs, we went to a genuine oasis. 1,000 trees in the middle of the desert!

And while we were out hiking, we saw 5 planes sky-writing for "Coachella 2016"! (Kick off...)

Roger and Al enjoyed a swim while Brenda and Heather visited. We plan to leave first thing tomorrow.

ARRIVED!

1400 miles (14% of our trip) later...we arrived Saturday mid-afternoon at Sky Valley, CA. Brenda and Al were waiting for us at the gate! It was very windy and warm, but the evening is cool and pleasant. Had dinner with them on their porch.

3rd day drove from Stockton to Gorman, CA.

Tonight (Friday) we are in a real RV park with hookups. Last night we parked in a Wal-Mart lot. No hookups!

Beautiful hills and California farmland today. The wind wasn't too bad for driving. The breeze was cool even though the sun was intense. We again enjoyed home cooked meals in the motor home. Being  self-contained offers a different lifestyle. You depend mainly on gas stations but most everything else is on board. Speaking of gas stations, I'll just add that Miss Winnie really loves them. On level road we barely get 10mpg. We might do better if we slowed down a bit (hint, hint, Heather!).

On the road in Miss Winnie

2nd day on the road from Roseburg, OR to Stockton, CA

We left Roseburg in heavy rain. Stopped at a Wildlife Safari in Winston, OR.  Since it was cold and rainy we walked through the zoo portion and did not do the Safari part. We think it was off-season and the wild animals were on vacation, but they have a variety of beautiful exotics to see. We enjoyed the pink flamingos. Up to that point Roger had only seen plastic ones.

Heading south on I5 we continued with heavy rain, wind and even a bit of snow on the final mountain pass.

By the time we passed Mt. Shasta the rain was gone and skies partly cloudy. If only the wind had stopped it would have been perfect traveling. The wind was pretty much with us all day. There were even high wind warning signs posted.
